Radio DGH is always looking to increase its membership base and if you feel you could bring something to the station, then we’d be interested in hearing from you.
We have role for all sorts of jobs including:
- Programme Assistants
- Presenting
- Admin
- Fundraising
- Publicity
- Local News and Sport
Most people (but not all) are interested in doing something “on air”. The usual process that new recruits take is to spend some time working with an existing presenter as a “Programme Assistant” – a “PA”. You will visit the wards, collect requests, often read out the requests and gradually be shown “the ropes” at a speed which suits you and you confidence.
Once both you and the Programme Controller are happy with your progress, and subject to availability, you will be offered your own programme.
New members have to be “vetted” by the Hospital Trust. This includes CRB checks and referencing, as you will have access to large areas of the hospital and these are designed to protect both you, the Trust and the patients. You will also be required to attend an induction course and will also have to be briefed annually on essential Health and Safety.
As Radio DGH is run entirely by volunteers, our presenters are expected to help raise funds to keep the station “alive”. This may be through attending fundraising events, acquiring show sponsorship from local companies and also through presenter membership, which is currently less than 50p per week. Only full members (Presenters and Committee) are required to pay membership, and only full members can stand for committee and vote at our meetings and AGM.
